Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been in power since 2003, currently serving his third term. He has overseen Turkey's economic success and proven himself an adept Muslim leader.

This is a List of Turkish Billionaires. As a result of Turkey's economic success in the past decade, the country has produced around 43 known billionaires in 2013 (or 3.02% of the world's total),[1] up from 34 in 2012. It now has more billionaires than the UK (who's 5 out of Flag of the United Kingdom.svg.png 37 billionaires are Muslim),[2] France (Flag of France.svg.png 24), Italy (Flag of Italy.svg.png 23), Spain (Flag of Spain.svg.png 20), Sweden (Flag of Sweden.svg.png 14), and many other European countries. Germany, and if considered European, Russia, are the only countries in the region which have more billionaires than Turkey with Flag of Germany.svg.png 58 and Flag of Russia.svg.png 110 respectively. Turkey's billionaires are worth at least $74.1 billion. Nine are ♀ women (worth a total of $16.3 billion) and thirty-four are ♂ men (worth a total of $57.8 billion). Turkey's share amounts to 0.0014%[n. 1] of the worlds total in monetary terms.[3] If America (which has 442 billionaires out of 1,426, who are worth around $1.87 trillion)[4][5] are excluded, Turkey's share would increase to 0.0021%.[6] If America is excluded by number of billionaires, Turkey would represented 4.37% of the world's total.[7]

Between 2002 and 2014 the Turkish economy grew at an average annual rate of 4.7%, and in terms of real Gross Domestic Product (GDP), exactly 4.9%.[8] This is primarily down to the fact that the Turkish economy at the start of the decade was planned macroscopically with "prudent fiscal policies and major structural reforms in effect since 2002".[8] This has resulted in the country growing very healthily in the last 10 years despite the onslaught of the late 2000s global recession. Turkey has as a result of it's strong economic performance became a member of the G-20 Major Economies (G20),[9] and other organistaions such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD),[10] European Union Customs Union (EUCU),[11] World Trading Organisation (WTO),[12] Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO),[13] and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).[14]

As of 2010 Turkey's annual GDP in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) was around $1.15 trillion, which increased to $1.26 trillion in 2011 and Flag of Turkey.svg.png $1.36 trillion in 2012.[15] Contrasted, Turkey's GDP PPP in 2002 was only $588 billion.[15] Further, Turkey's annual GDP PPP is roughly the same as 8% of what the 27 EU-member countries generate (Flag of Europe.svg.png $16.98 trillion).[15] Minus Germany (Flag of Germany.svg.png $3.38 trillion), France (Flag of France.svg.png $2.37 trillion), the UK (Flag of the United Kingdom.svg.png $2.33 trillion), and Italy (Flag of Italy.svg.png $1.98 trillion), Turkey's share increases to 17.3%.[16] Turkey's real GDP is around Flag of Turkey.svg.png $0.79 trillion which can be compared to Italy (Flag of Italy.svg.png $2.01 trillion), the UK (Flag of the United Kingdom.svg.png $2.44 trillion), France (Flag of France.svg.png $2.61 trillion), and Germany (Flag of Germany.svg.png $3.40 trillion).[17] Turkey is one of the richest and most developed Muslim countries in the world, and has historically remained and is currently, extremely secular.
